Mission Statement
The mission of Dodge Elementary Media Center is to provide a library media program which will enable individuals to become information literate and effective lifelong readers. The program will provide educational and technological opportunities to students and staff in keeping with their needs and abilities. The program will also enable individuals to access, analyze, assimilate, and use information effectively.
Goals
The goals of the library media program are to enable students to:
- Access information through learning activities that are integrated into the curriculum and assist students in becoming information literate;
- Select, retrieve, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, create, and communicate information in all formats and in all content areas of the curriculum;
- Use a range of equipment for accessing local and remote information in any format from within and beyond the library media center and the school through electronic networks; and
- Pursue areas of personal interests through reading and accessing information, thereby becoming lifelong learners and effective, responsible citizens in a democracy.
General Information
The Dodge Elementary Library Media Center operates on a flexible schedule and is open each weekday from 8:30 to 2:30 for students and from 7:45 - 3:30 for teachers. The Media Center uses an automated catalog system named "Destiny" which can be accessed from all computers in the school including those located in the Media Center, Computer Lab, and individual classrooms. Students and teachers may use the Destiny program anywhere in the building to generate a list of desired materials and then email this list to the Media Specialist. These materials will then be pulled and prepared for the individual to pick-up.
Students may check out books for a period of one (1) week. Fines are not charged for overdue books; however, students with overdue books will not be allowed to check out additional books. Students must pay to replace lost or damaged books.
In addition to the open circulation hours listed above, classes are scheduled into the library on a rotating basis for formal lessons covering grade level appropriate information literacy skills. Teachers may request additional class time for special projects or research. The library media specialist and classroom teacher will plan collaboratively to ensure that all class sessions support and extend the goals and objectives of the classroom.AR Bookfind
